Make this kid-friendly and festive Halloween snack board, perfect for a party or a special after-school snack. A bit more fun (and sugary) than my Halloween charcuterie board, this is a fun Halloween board for spooky season and has a good mix of sweet and salty snacks. Featuring Halloween chocolate covered strawberries and banana ghosts, the kids will be asking you to make this every Halloween season.
You all know my love of snack boards runs deep, but for the most part I tend to make them more adult-friendly. See my sophisticated Thanksgiving charcuterie board, or this pretty Christmas charcuterie board. So I thought it was time to make a really fun Halloween snack board that was as fun to look at as it was to eat!

Why this Halloween-themed snack board works
- Visually appealing – fresh fruit disguised as cute ghosts and pumpkins? Chocolate-covered pretzels, their favorite bright colored Halloween candy? The kids will be clamoring to dig into this fun snack board!
- Very easy to assemble – with the exception of the chocolate covered strawberries, every item on this snack board is quick and easy to make.
- Mix of healthy snacks and indulgent treats – I try to keep things balanced in our house when it comes to food options, and I think this snack board is an honest reflection of that mindset. Mixing the healthy with the not so healthy, for a very special occasion is a-okay in my book! Plus, I notice my kids are more apt to try a wide variety of foods when given other fun options as well.
What you need for your fun spooky snack board
- Festive sweet treats – think Halloween themed candy such as candy corn, candy pumpkins, Halloween Oreos and other fun Halloween cookies like my spider web sugar cookies, gummy worms, or gumball candy eyeballs (I picked mine up at Target).
- Fresh fruits and fresh veggies dressed up and made into Halloween themed snacks. I filled celery sticks with peanut butter (you can also use cream cheese), and added edible candy eyeballs. Clementine oranges peeled and stem on to resemble pumpkins, and of course the chocolate covered strawberries.
- Crackers, chips and breadsticks – I love the veggie chips in ghost and bat shapes, or as I made here, crescent rolls cut into Halloween shape.
- A bit of protein – including small amounts of protein will help get some actual food in your ghouls and goblins and lessen the sugar crash so your Halloween party doesn’t turn into a spooky party! Here I added the peanut butter as well as orange cheese cut into various shapes with a Halloween cookie cutter. Salami, ghost quesadillas or string cheese are also a fun idea.
Quick and easy assembly
The first thing I do is grab a large platter or large cutting board. I found this black snake platter at Target a few years ago, but this black wood coffin would be SO cool to use! Also gather a couple of small plates and a small serving bowl or two to help keep foods separated.
I started by placing all of my fresh fruit and veggie items on the tray. These were the larger items that took up more space, so I wanted to make sure I made room for them first.
I then added the cheese and little goat cheese ghost crackers (say that 5 times fast!).
To make the ghosts, sloppily smear on some goat cheese, cream cheese or a soft cheese spread like Boursin, onto a rectangular cracker. Add black raisins or dried currants for the eyes and mouth.
To make the Halloween shaped cheese and crescent rolls, simply grab a couple of fun cookie cutters and cut out shapes. Bake crescent rolls as directed.
After that I added the pretzel sticks and candy, and then filled in any empty space with more treats.
I finished my Halloween-themed board by of course adding in a few Halloween decorations. Small pumpkins, skulls and black plastic spiders are all fun ways to amp up the spook factor and really make this board scream “Happy Halloween!”
Other snack board ideas to swap or add in
The best thing about assembling snack boards is there really is no wrong way to make one! Use ingredients to suit your personal preferences and the festive treats your family loves most. A few swaps and add-ins to get your creative juices flowing:
- Make spiders out of Oreo cookies using a tutorial like this
- Add in some orange and black foods like black olives, orange sweet peppers
- Make caramel apple dip and serve with apple slices
- Make a batch of my Halloween snack mix and customize with peanut butter cups or chocolate chips.
- Use a mix of homemade and store-bought treats to make assembly even faster. Here I used store-bought chocolate covered pretzel sticks.
