Making sausage patties in the air fryer is quick, easy and delicious! You only need a high quality ground pork and your favorite herb and spice mix to have a yummy high protein breakfast sausage!
Our family loves having some sort of breakfast sausage links or turkey bacon in the mornings, and while store-bought is fine when in a pinch, they often contain loads of extra sodium and fillers. It’s actually super and cost-effective to make your own air fryer breakfast sausage, and you get to control the ingredients!
For the past few months I have been following a low fodmap diet and had to eliminate all premade sausage links and patties because they caused bad reflux. I loved being able to adjust the seasoning ingredients and still enjoy these high protein patties.

Why you’ll love these air fryer sausage patties
- Quick and easy to make, and are especially great for meal prep! Combine with egg white bites for a perfect on-the-go breakfast.
- Only 2 simple ingredients is you need to make these yummy breakfast sausage patties.
- Great for those following a specific diet for either health or lifestyle reasons. They are gluten-free, KETO and Paleo friendly, as well as low Fodmap friendly (just use a gut-friendly seasoning mix).
2 simple ingredients
- High quality ground pork. Look for a brand that is finely ground and not “ribbony”, which will create a rubbery, squeaky texture when cooked. If you don’t wish to make pork sausage patties, you can try using a different type of ground meat like ground turkey or chicken.
- Favorite seasoning mix. I used a simple mix of garlic powder, onion powder, dried sage and salt & black pepper.
Easy process for making homemade sausage patties
For best results, start with very cold raw pork. Add it a medium bowl, preferably metal so that it stays cooler. Add your seasonings and mix till well combined, taking care not to overmix and over-handle the ground sausage too much.
Form into patties about 2″-2.5″ in diameter, weighing about 2 ounces. With 1 pound of ground pork you should be able to make 7-8 sausage patties. Make sure to gently flatten the raw patties out to about 1″ thick, as they will rise when cooking.
Place the raw sausage patties in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Air fry at 400 degrees f for 10-12 minutes, until the internal temperature of each sausage patty reaches 160 degrees f. Cook time may vary depending on your air fryer, so as with all air fryer recipes, begin checking for doneness a couple minutes before recommended cooking time.
Remove from the air fryer tray and serve immediately or store in an airtight container to enjoy throughout the week!
Ways to serve these easy air fryer sausage patties
My favorite way to enjoy these for a great breakfast is to serve alongside my egg white bites and a bowl of berries.
They also taste great in an breakfast sandwich, or for a more traditional American breakfast, serve alongside Greek yogurt pancakes or French toast.
FAQ’s for air fryer breakfast sausage patties
Air frying uses less oil and also helps release some extra fat from the sausage during the cooking process. It will drip into the basket tray versus allowing it the extra grease seep back into the patty while cooking. They also cook more evenly than pan frying, and retain their moistness.
Using cold ground pork prevents the fat from schmearing and makes for a better textured patty. When the pork is more coarsely ground, the sausage may become almost rubbery in texture when cooked.
Yes, absolutely! To freeze cooked sausage patties, simply wrap them up in parchment paper and place in a sealable freezer safe bag. Freeze for up to 3 months.
To reheat, remove from the freezer, wrap in a paper towel and place on a microwave safe plate. Heat on medium power for 1 minute, then reheat on high power for another 1-2 minutes till warmed through. To freeze raw sausage patties, check out this you tube video for freezing raw sausage.
