Make this easy and delicious cottage cheese dip for a quick snack that is a great source of protein. With only 4 ingredients and ready in less than 5 minutes, it’s the perfect creamy dip for topping on crackers, using in a wrap or as a dip for fresh vegetables.
It’s no secret I am a fan of cottage cheese, and have been since I was a kid! My favorite way to eat cottage cheese back then was topped with grape jelly or canned pineapple chunks. Hey, I was a true kid of the 80’s! These days I will usually opt for fresh fruit toppings instead, or add in some seasoning favorites to top on things. Instead of “put an egg on it”, I often opt for “put some cottage cheese on it” instead ha!

Now let me show you how easy it is to make this cottage cheese dip with over 25 grams of protein per 1 cup serving.

4 Simple Ingredients
- 1 cup of low fat or full-fat cottage cheese. I have tried a lot of different brands but prefer Good Culture or Lactaid brand if you are lactose intolerant. They both have a drier consistency. And it doesn’t matter if it’s low fat or full fat, both will taste great!
- ¼ cup ricotta cheese – this adds a bit of creaminess and mellows out the chunky texture of cottage cheese just a bit
- Lemon pepper seasoning – while the recipe calls for 2 teaspoons, feel free to adjust to your specific taste preferences
- 1 celery stalk, diced. This is optional and really just to give the dip a crunchier texture. If you enjoy celery, definitely include it but don’t worry if you don’t have any on hand!
How to make cottage cheese dip
Making this delicious cottage cheese dip recipe couldn’t be easier. Simply dice up the celery if including it in the recipe, then add all ingredients to a bowl. Mix well till combined and adjust seasonings as desired, adding a little more lemon pepper if you want a more intense flavor.
Serve immediately with crackers, tortilla chips, or fresh veggies such as carrots, cucumbers, cauliflower florets and cherry tomatoes. It would also be a great healthy dip to serve alongside chicken wings, almost like a healthy ranch dip. Or offer a fantastic healthy dip option to serve on game day. It’ll help offset all the other indulgences haha.
To make a creamy texture dip
I know not everyone loves the chunky texture of cottage cheese, but making it smooth and creamy couldn’t be more simple. All you’ve got to do is add the cottage cheese and ricotta to a food processor and pulse till creamy. Then stir in the remaining ingredients. And voila, now you have whipped cottage cheese dip!
Ingredient substitutions and other recipe ideas
Want to really pack a protein punch? Add plain Greek yogurt in lieu of the ricotta. This will increase the protein content by another 4 grams.
Lemon pepper seasoning isn’t your jam? Add fresh herbs like parsley, dill or chives instead, to give the dip a refreshing, vibrant flavor.
To make a ranch flavored cottage cheese dip, add dried a herb ranch dressing blend that includes garlic powder and onion powder.
Make a sweet cottage cheese dip by mixing in cinnamon and honey, maple syrup or stevia. This is great for a sweet night time dessert or as a breakfast topping for pancakes or waffles, alongside fresh fruit. It’s also delicious with apple slices or berries.
Why is cottage cheese so good for you?
Because of the high protein content of cottage cheese, it’s a filling and satiating food. Each cup offers 25 grams of protein.
Protein is a key macronutrient in helping to build and repair muscle and is the most satiating macro, helping you feel full and satisfied for hours. I always aim for at least 100 grams of protein per day, and cottage cheese easily helps me reach that goal.
And depending on the brand, cottage cheese is also great for gut health and loaded with beneficial probiotics.
Cottage cheese is also packed with many nutrients, such as B vitamins, calcium, phosphorus, and selenium.
