This delicious holiday Chex Mix recipe is the perfect mix of sweet and salty ingredients, and is such an easy recipe to make this time of year. Red and green chocolate candies make it extra festive, and perfect to bring to parties or make little bundles for Christmas gifts. You will love making this Christmas snack mix throughout the holiday season.
A gal in my mom’s group shared this recipe years ago when she brought a batch to a holiday party, and she called it Christmas crack Chex mix. Needless to say it was so addicting, I’ve been making it ever since, and have reinvented it for Halloween too! The proportions of the cereal mixture, salty pretzels, nuts and white chocolate is perfect. Each bite has the perfect balance of sweet and savory, and my kids plow right through a batch.
You may be used to making Chex mixes for parties, but I promise your family will appreciate this blend so much, it will quickly become one of their favorite holiday treats. Give small trays of this snack mix, along with pecan snowball cookies and sugared cranberries, and you will be the favorite neighbor on the block!

Holiday Chex mix simple ingredients
- Rice Chex cereal – 2 cups
- Corn Chex cereal – 2 cups
- Cheerios – 2 cups
- Pretzels – 2 cups either pretzel sticks or minis
- Mixed Nuts, preferably unsalted – 1 cup
- M & M’s – 1 bag of mixed red and green m&m’s
- White Chocolate Chips – 1 bag. I like either Guittard’s, or if you are watching your sugar, Lily’s makes a great low sugar chocolate chip
How to make Your mix!
Whipping up a batch of this mix couldn’t be easier. You just take a large serving bowl, dump all your ingredients into the large bowl, and then stir in the melted chocolate.
You can melt your chocolate chips over a double boiler, or in a microwave. Add your chips to a glass measuring cup or microwave-safe bowl, add in 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil, and heat on medium for 1 minute. Stir, then heat again in 30 second intervals, until chips are thoroughly melted through.
When you’ve completely incorporated the melted chocolate into your mix, spread it out on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Allow to rest for at least 30 minutes till it comes to room temperature. Break up the mix into large pieces, and add to your storage container. Now, enjoy!
The ratio of this mix makes the perfect combination salty snack mix; not too sweet and just the right amount of savory. The chocolate chips just barely coat the mix enough to bind it, but don’t overpower it and make it sticky sweet.

This is very similar to one of our very favorite Christmas treats! I feel compelled to note that the the seasonal mint M&Ms are a very delightful option, as is Honeycomb cereal in place of Cheerios. Happy Holidays!
